HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels was created 42 years ago under the 
3
federal Older Americans Act, signed into law on July 14, 1965, 
4
by President Lyndon B. Johnson; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, To mark the 42nd anniversary of Meals on Wheels, 
6
the Senior Advisory Council and Community Nutrition Network, 
7
Inc., of Schaumburg are participating in the national March for 
8
Meals campaign; March for Meals is a nationwide initiative to 
9
end senior hunger, sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association 
10
of America; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Despite the success of the Meals on Wheels 
12
program, literally hundreds of thousands of senior citizens 
13
still go to bed hungry each night in this country, and four out 
14
of ten Meals on Wheels programs have waiting lists; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, During the month of March, people all over the 
16
country are encouraged to participate in the Meals on Wheels 
17
program by volunteering or contributing financially; 
18
therefore, be it

 
19
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
21
recognize the 42nd anniversary of the creation of Meals on

Wheels, and we encourage the citizens of Illinois to support 
2
this worthy program either financially or by volunteering; and 
3
be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
5
presented to the Senior Advisory Council and Community 
6
Nutrition Network, Inc., of Schaumburg as an expression of our 
7
gratitude for the important service they provide to our senior 
8
citizens.
