HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the 
3
Illinois House of Representatives that Ken Bartels of Elmhurst 
4
is the recipient of the 56th Distinguished Service Award given 
5
by the Elmhurst Jaycees; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Distinguished Service Award is an annual award 
7
given to a citizen in recognition of his or her dedication to 
8
making the City of Elmhurst a better community; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Ken Bartels has served as  the Vice President of 
10
College Advancement at Elmhurst College since 1981; and he has 
11
been a Director of the Community Bank of Elmhurst since 1999; 
12
and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels has been active in the Elmhurst 
14
Chamber of Commerce &  Industry for more than 20 years and has 
15
been a member of the Rotary Club of Elmhurst for 25 years, 
16
serving 10 years as a director; he is also a board member and 
17
an endowment trust member of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra; 
18
in addition, he has been active with many other Elmhurst 
19
community groups; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels is known in the community as the TV 
21
voice of the Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade, the opening

ceremonies at Elmfest, and as a part of the "Elmhurst Our Kind 
2
of Town" television series; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, Ken Bartels was married to Claire, who passed away 
4
after battling cancer in 1995; in her memory he created the 
5
Walk for Hope to raise money to fight cancer; and
 
6
    WHEREAS, Ken Bartels is married to Marge and has three 
7
children, Amy, Brittney, and Jacob; and
 
8
    WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels will be honored at the Distinguished 
9
Service Award dinner at the River Forest Country Club on April 
10
18, 2007; therefore, be it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate Ken Bartels on being the recipient of the 
14
Distinguished Service Award given by the Elmhurst Jaycees; and 
15
be it further

 
16
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to Ken Bartels as a symbol of our respect.
