HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Steve Fleming of 
4
Lovington on his retirement as the village Emergency Medical 
5
Services (EMS) coordinator; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Steve Fleming has lived in Lovington all his life; 
7
when he was growing up people would donate money to help him go 
8
on music trips, and he wanted to return all the generosity by 
9
working as an emergency medical technician (EMT); and

 
10
    WHEREAS, He was active in sports in high school, lettering 
11
in football, baseball, track, and basketball; he attended 
12
Illinois Wesleyan and studied music; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, In 1976 Steve Fleming became an EMT; when he 
14
joined, the EMTs did not have pagers, radios, or today's 
15
technology; in 1982 Intermediate level licenses became 
16
available, giving EMTs the chance to start IV's, intubate, and 
17
other tasks; Steve Fleming attended the first class at St. 
18
Mary's Hospital in Decatur and was one of the first thirty 
19
people to receive an Intermediate level license; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Steve Fleming has shown a dedication to public 
21
service by serving as Village President of Lovington from 2001

to 2005, where he oversaw the construction of a new doctors 
2
office and new water tower; and
 
3
    WHEREAS, Steve Fleming worked towards Lovington receiving 
4
a second ambulance in 1984; he served as President of the EMTs 
5
and was the EMS coordinator for 25 years; he also served as 
6
trustee for 12 years; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Steve Fleming has worked as an EMT for 30 years, 
8
as a volunteer with no pay, just because he wants to help 
9
others; he is a devoted husband to his wife, Jayme, and a 
10
devoted father to his son, Aaron; therefore, be it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
thank Steve Fleming for his dedication to his community and the 
14
people and wish him nothing but the best as he retires as both 
15
an EMT and EMS coordinator for the Village of Lovington; and be 
16
it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Steve Fleming as a symbol of our respect and 
19
esteem.
