HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the men and women who are 
4
employed with, the alumni, and the current students of 
5
Bloomington Public School District 87 and the city of 
6
Bloomington on the occasion of the sesquicentennial 
7
anniversary of the School District; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, On February 17, 1857 "An Act to Establish and 
9
Regulate a System of Public Schools in the City of Bloomington" 
10
was signed by Illinois Governor William Bissell; 17 Illinois 
11
cities were granted the special charter; Bloomington can count 
12
itself as being one of the first cities in the State with an 
13
organized school district; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, The first classes were held in September of 1857 
15
and Bloomington High School officially opened at the Wilken's 
16
Academy; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Events and celebrations will begin in April of 
18
2007 and run through the 2007-08 school year; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, Activities will include a parade from Oakland 
20
School to the Bloomington High School on September 23, 2007; 
21
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
congratulate all of those who have been a part of Bloomington 
4
Public School District 87 and wish them the best during the 
5
sesquicentennial celebration; and be it further

 
6
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to Dr. Robert Nielsen, Bloomington Public School 
8
District 87  Superintendent of Schools.
