HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 
4
the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin has served as Publisher and 
6
Manager of the Evanston RoundTable for nine years; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Evanston RoundTable is a bi-weekly community 
8
newspaper that provides meaningful, thorough and even-handed 
9
coverage of Evanston news, including city committees, local 
10
business development, school districts 65 and 202 and features 
11
that are uniquely Evanston; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, The Evanston RoundTable has been cited for 
13
numerous awards by the Northern Illinois Newspaper 
14
Association; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin includes the training of 
16
journalists as a key component of her work; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin has been a long-time Evanstonian, 
18
committed to the city's diversity and sustainability and 
19
particularly mindful of its less fortunate residents; and

    WHEREAS, The Community Media Workshop is recognizing Mary 
2
Helt Gavin for her outstanding work by awarding her with the 
3
2007 Studs Terkel Award; and
 
4
    WHEREAS, The Studs Terkel Award is being presented to 
5
outstanding media professionals for excellence in covering and 
6
reflecting Chicago's diverse communities; therefore, be it

 
7
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9
extend our congratulations to Mary Helt Gavin for being 
10
selected as a winner of the
2007 Studs Terkel Award; and be it 
11
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13
presented to Mary Helt Gavin as an expression of our esteem.
