| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the | ||||||
| 3 | cornerstones upon
which our society is built, and a marriage | ||||||
| 4 | that has achieved a notable
longevity is truly a model for the | ||||||
| 5 | people of the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 7 | Representatives are pleased to honor Robert E. Mann and Sylvia | ||||||
| 8 | A. Mann on their 50-year wedding anniversary, May 5, 2007; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Robert and Sylvia met in 1953 on the South Side of | ||||||
| 10 | Chicago when Sylvia was a nursing student at Michael Reese | ||||||
| 11 | Hospital and Bob was a law student at the University of | ||||||
| 12 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Robert Mann served for 16 years as State | ||||||
| 14 | Representative of the 24th district; he was named one of the | ||||||
| 15 | top ten greatest legislators in Illinois history by Chicago | ||||||
| 16 | Magazine; he sponsored landmark legislation to create the | ||||||
| 17 | Illinois Housing Development Authority, the School Lunch | ||||||
| 18 | Program, the Lake Michigan Bill of Rights, and other important | ||||||
| 19 | legislation; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Sylvia Mann taught nursing for over 30 years at | ||||||
| 21 | the University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern, and at | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Chicago State University until her retirement; she was adored | ||||||
| 2 | by her students, many of whom now practice at hospitals & | ||||||
| 3 | clinics in the Chicago area; she served on numerous community | ||||||
| 4 | boards including the former Hyde Park YMCA and the Chicago | ||||||
| 5 | Counseling Center; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Bob and Sylvia Mann have lived in Hyde Park all of | ||||||
| 7 | their married life; they have four children, Stephen, Stuart, | ||||||
| 8 | Laurie, and Elise, and seven grandchildren; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Bob and Sylvia Mann are members of KAM | ||||||
| 10 | Congregation; they lovingly refer to their family as the | ||||||
| 11 | "kosher nostra", based on the combination of Bob's Jewish | ||||||
| 12 | background and Sylvia's Italian ancestry; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its | ||||||
| 14 | highest plateaus
when a couple such as Bob and Sylvia celebrate | ||||||
| 15 | their golden
wedding anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Bob and Sylvia stand as examples of the best of | ||||||
| 17 | our
society, and their love and devotion to each other and to | ||||||
| 18 | their family and
friends serve as a reminder to all that hard | ||||||
| 19 | work, dedication, and love can
make a difference in today's | ||||||
| 20 | world; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||

| 1 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 2 | congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Mann on the occasion of | ||||||
| 3 | their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them for | ||||||
| 4 | achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children and | ||||||
| 5 | grandchildren, and rich in friendships; and that we wish them | ||||||
| 6 | happiness and good health in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to Robert and Sylvia Mann as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
| 9 | and esteem.
