| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gene Amberg, |
| 4 |
| Superintendent of Schools for Urbana School District 116, on |
| 5 |
| his retirement; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Gene Amberg has served as the Superintendent of |
| 7 |
| Schools since 1992; he also is an Adjunct Assistant Professor |
| 8 |
| in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at |
| 9 |
| Urbana-Champaign; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Gene Amberg received his Bachelor of Arts degree |
| 11 |
| in History, his Master of Arts degree in Education, and his |
| 12 |
| Ph.D. in Educational Administration at Saint Louis University; |
| 13 |
| and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Gene Amberg was a member of the United States |
| 15 |
| Educator Delegation to China in 2006; he received the Those Who |
| 16 |
| Excel Award from the Illinois State Board of Education in |
| 17 |
| 2002-2003; he received the Eugene L. Amberg Endowed Chair for |
| 18 |
| Excellence in Teaching from the Champaign-Urbana Schools |
| 19 |
| Foundation in 2002; and the Illinois Alliance for Arts |
| 20 |
| Education Recognition Award in 2000; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Gene Amberg is currently serving on the Board of |
|
|

| Directors for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the |
| 2 |
| University of Illinois; he is a gubernatorial appointee to the |
| 3 |
| Illinois Children's Mental Health Partnership; he is a member |
| 4 |
| of the Board of Directors for the Champaign-Urbana Schools |
| 5 |
| Foundation; he is a member of the Board of Directors of the |
| 6 |
| Economic Development Council for the Champaign County Chamber |
| 7 |
| of Commerce; and he was a member of the Board of Directors for |
| 8 |
| the Urban League of Champaign County from 1995 to 2002; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, While serving as Superintendent of Schools, Gene |
| 10 |
| Amberg has overseen construction and renovation projects over |
| 11 |
| the last three years totaling $30 million; he has overseen the |
| 12 |
| construction of the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center; he has |
| 13 |
| overseen national, award-winning multi-cultural and bilingual |
| 14 |
| programs; he has overseen national, award-winning fine arts, |
| 15 |
| concert bands, orchestra, and choral programs; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Gene Amberg has developed a joint Urbana School |
| 17 |
| District and University of Illinois Early Childhood Programs |
| 18 |
| for at-risk children; he established a partnership with the |
| 19 |
| University of Illinois Novice Teachers Program; and he works |
| 20 |
| with Project Even Start, a family literacy program for parents |
| 21 |
| and children ; therefore, be it
