| WHEREAS, Kendall Ciesemier, an esteemed resident of |
| 3 |
| Wheaton and a student at Franklin Middle School in Wheaton, has |
| 4 |
| achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service |
| 5 |
| by being named one of the two top volunteers in the State of |
| 6 |
| Illinois in the 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential |
| 8 |
| Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
| 9 |
| Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
| 10 |
| America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to |
| 11 |
| serving their communities; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Kendall, an eighth-grade student, formed a |
| 13 |
| nonprofit organization that has raised $50,000 since 2004 to |
| 14 |
| benefit AIDS orphans in Africa; Kendall, who has faced her own |
| 15 |
| struggles as she underwent two liver transplants, was inspired |
| 16 |
| to volunteer by watching an Oprah Winfrey TV special about the |
| 17 |
| African AIDS epidemic; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Kendall used her own money to adopt an AIDS orphan |
| 19 |
| through World Vision; during her recovery from surgery she made |
| 20 |
| the decision to ask people for money for AIDS orphans in lieu |
| 21 |
| of gifts or flowers for her; Kendall and her family established |
| 22 |
| "Kids Caring 4 Kids", an ongoing effort to raise money through |
