| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The framers of the United States Constitution |
| 3 |
| established the qualifications for the office of President of |
| 4 |
| the United States and included the requirement that only |
| 5 |
| natural born citizens are eligible to serve as President of the |
| 6 |
| United States; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, the constitutional qualifications for the office |
| 8 |
| of the President of the United States have been upheld for |
| 9 |
| almost 220 years; therefore, be it
|
| 10 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 11 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 12 |
| urge the United States Congress to continue to uphold the |
| 13 |
| constitutional requirement that only natural born citizens be |
| 14 |
| qualified to run for the office of President of the United |
| 15 |
| States; and be it further
|
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 17 |
| presented to the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, |
| 18 |
| the Minority Leader of the United States Senate, the Speaker of |
| 19 |
| the United States House of Representatives, the Minority Leader |
| 20 |
| of the United States House of Representatives, and to each |
| 21 |
| member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
