2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to recognize the public service | ||||||
4 | dedication and accomplishments of former Illinois State | ||||||
5 | Representative Maureen Murphy from Evergreen Park; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy has committed her life to her | ||||||
7 | family, the Catholic faith, public service, and the Republican | ||||||
8 | Party; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She grew up in Evergreen Park and still lives on | ||||||
10 | the same block she grew up on; she has been married to her | ||||||
11 | loving husband Jack for 37 years; she has four successful boys, | ||||||
12 | Jason, Shaun, Michael, and Matthew, a wonderful | ||||||
13 | daughter-in-law Kelly, and four grandchildren, Brennah, Mary | ||||||
14 | Margaret (Maggie), Jack, and Nathan; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Maureen has a lifelong devotion to the Catholic | ||||||
16 | Church, attending Queen of Martyrs grammar school and Mother of | ||||||
17 | Sorrows High School in Blue Island; she attends Mass at her | ||||||
18 | home parish of Queen of Martyrs daily; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Maureen started her career in public service with | ||||||
20 | her election to the Evergreen Park High School Board in 1982, a | ||||||
21 | position she held for 10 years; she was elected to a 4 year |

1 | term as Worth Township Clerk in 1985; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Maureen was elected State Representative for the | ||||||
3 | 36th District in 1992, where she became spokesperson and | ||||||
4 | chairman of the House Revenue Committee; she championed the | ||||||
5 | rights of taxpayers by sponsoring the Cook County Property Tax | ||||||
6 | Cap Law and Cook County Property Assessment Reform; she fought | ||||||
7 | for Property Tax Appeal Board jurisdiction for all Cook County | ||||||
8 | taxpayers, and took an active role in spearheading
Chicago | ||||||
9 | School Reform; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Maureen continued her commitment to fiscal | ||||||
11 | responsibility and taxpayer rights by serving two consecutive | ||||||
12 | 4-year terms as First District Commissioner of the Cook County | ||||||
13 | Board of Review, helping ensure fair property assessments for | ||||||
14 | homeowners and business owners; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Maureen has been a faithful advocate for the | ||||||
16 | Republican Party and its candidates, serving as Worth Township | ||||||
17 | Committeeman since 1994, Cook County Republican Party | ||||||
18 | Chairman, State Central Committeeman from the 1St | ||||||
19 | Congressional District, Delegate to three G.O.P. national | ||||||
20 | conventions, Co-Chairman of the 1994 Republican State | ||||||
21 | Convention, and President of the Evergreen Park Republican | ||||||
22 | Organization; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Maureen is currently a successful businesswoman | ||||||
2 | with her Irish import store, Shannon Imports, and a realtor; | ||||||
3 | and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Maureen is universally recognized as a strong | ||||||
5 | willed fighter who has accomplished many firsts for women in | ||||||
6 | Illinois government and politics, which she achieved without | ||||||
7 | sacrificing her ideals or her devotion to her family and faith; | ||||||
8 | therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
10 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
11 | honor Maureen Murphy for the many contributions, past, present, | ||||||
12 | and future, she has made or will make to Illinois public | ||||||
13 | service; and be it further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to Maureen as a symbol of our admiration and respect.
