| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kris Cox of |
| 4 |
| Virginia on her retirement from PORTA High School; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Kris Cox grew up in Bradford; she is married to |
| 6 |
| Nathan Cox; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Kris Cox received her undergraduate degree from |
| 8 |
| Illinois State University and her M.A. from St. Xavier |
| 9 |
| University in Teaching and Leadership; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Kris Cox has been involved in public education for |
| 11 |
| 33 years; she began her teaching career in the Chandlerville |
| 12 |
| School District, then taught at Beardstown Jr.-Sr. High School |
| 13 |
| for one year before going to PORTA High School in Petersburg, |
| 14 |
| where she has taught for 17 years; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Kris Cox has served as the Illinois Music |
| 16 |
| Educators Association District IV President for eight years; |
| 17 |
| she has been a member of the IHSA Music Advisory committee for |
| 18 |
| six years; she was an IMEA Distinguished Service Award |
| 19 |
| recipient in January 2006; and she was selected to direct the |
| 20 |
| State FFA Band at the Illinois convention; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, During her tenure at PORTA, Kris and the PORTA |
| 2 |
| High School Marching Band have won numerous awards in concert |
| 3 |
| band contests and marching band competitions; they have been |
| 4 |
| selected to perform at Disney World four times, played for |
| 5 |
| former Governor Jim Edgar, and for the inauguration of Governor |
| 6 |
| Rod Blagojevich; the PORTA High School Pep Band has played at |
| 7 |
| the State Volleyball, Girl's State Basketball, and Boy's State |
| 8 |
| Basketball Tournaments; the Junior High Pep Band has played at |
| 9 |
| the Boy's 8AA State Basketball tournament three times; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Kris Cox's dedication, talent and work ethic has |
| 11 |
| inspired hundreds of students to learn, perform and appreciate |
| 12 |
| music; she has served as an inspiration to countless students |
| 13 |
| and colleagues throughout her long and distinguished career; |
| 14 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 |
| congratulate Kris Cox on her retirement and wish her continued |
| 18 |
| success and happiness in the future; and be it further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 |
| presented to Kris Cox as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
