| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Carl Alexander on |
| 4 |
| his retirement as Public Safety Director for the City of |
| 5 |
| Danville; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Alexander was born and raised in Danville; he |
| 7 |
| served in the U.S. Army in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam; he was |
| 8 |
| a senior drill instructor at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; in 1969, |
| 9 |
| the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. |
| 10 |
| recruited him to be a police officer; instead of going back to |
| 11 |
| Vietnam, he chose to become a police officer; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, As a police officer in Washington, D.C., Carl |
| 13 |
| Alexander dealt with demonstrations and riots, including the |
| 14 |
| 1971 May Day protests; he started in the special operations |
| 15 |
| division, but also worked in internal affairs, as well as with |
| 16 |
| murders, kidnappings and bombings and as a police academy |
| 17 |
| instructor; he was an investigator in the attempted |
| 18 |
| assassination of President Ronald Reagan and helped in the |
| 19 |
| recovery of passengers in the Air Florida Flight 90 crash in |
| 20 |
| January 1982; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Alexander briefly retired in October 1991 and |
| 22 |
| came back to Danville prior to becoming director of |
