| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Alan Chapman on |
| 4 |
| his retirement as McLean County Unit District 5 Superintendent; |
| 5 |
| and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Alan Chapman attended Oakdale Elementary, |
| 7 |
| Central School, and Chiddix Junior High School; he graduated |
| 8 |
| from Normal Community High School in 1965; he attended the |
| 9 |
| University of Illinois, graduating with a B.A. in the Teaching |
| 10 |
| of Social Studies in 1969; he began his professional career in |
| 11 |
| Unit 5 at Chiddix Junior High School, teaching 7th and 8th |
| 12 |
| grade social studies and sponsoring the Social Studies Club and |
| 13 |
| Student Council; after that school year, he was inducted into |
| 14 |
| the U.S. Army and served two years; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He returned in 1972 and was assigned to teach U.S. |
| 16 |
| and World History and coach Varsity Tennis at Normal Community |
| 17 |
| High School; in 1975 he earned his Master of Science degree in |
| 18 |
| Education from Illinois State University; he was appointed Dean |
| 19 |
| of Students at NCHS in 1973; he moved back to Chiddix as |
| 20 |
| Assistant Principal in 1982 and then to Parkside Junior High |
| 21 |
| School as Principal in 1988; he earned his Doctor of Education |
| 22 |
| degree from ISU in 1984; he returned to NCHS as Principal in |
| 23 |
| 1990, where he remained until his retirement in 2002; and
|

| WHEREAS, After 18 months of retirement, during which he did |
| 2 |
| some part-time supervision of graduate students at ISU, Dr. |
| 3 |
| Alan Chapman was appointed Interim Superintendent of Unit 5 |
| 4 |
| effective January 5, 2004; on August 10, 2004, he was named |
| 5 |
| Superintendent through June 30, 2007; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Alan Chapman is a member of the Illinois State |
| 7 |
| Deans Association, the Illinois Principals Association, the |
| 8 |
| National Association of Secondary School Principals, the |
| 9 |
| Illinois Association of School Administrators, and the |
| 10 |
| American Association of School Administrators; he served as |
| 11 |
| Corn Belt Region Director for the Illinois Principals |
| 12 |
| Association, represented Division 5 on the Board of Directors |
| 13 |
| of the Illinois High School Association, and is a past |
| 14 |
| president of the Illinois State Deans Association; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Alan Chapman is a member of the Normal Rotary |
| 16 |
| Club; he serves on the United Way of McLean County Campaign |
| 17 |
| Cabinet, the Easter Seals Steering Cabinet, and the Economic |
| 18 |
| Development Council of McLean County; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Alan Chapman is married to Kathie, who retired |
| 20 |
| in 2005 after teaching 3rd grade at Colene Hoose Elementary |
| 21 |
| School in Normal for 17 years; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 3 |
| congratulate Dr. Alan Chapman on his retirement and wish him |
| 4 |
| continued success and happiness in the future; and be it |
| 5 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 |
| presented to Dr. Alan Chapman as a symbol of our esteem and |

| respect.
