| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are honored to recognize significant |
| 4 |
| milestones in the lives of the families of this State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Members of the Welch-Downs family had settled in |
| 6 |
| McLean County, Illinois and in 1882 two daughters of William |
| 7 |
| Welch came to Illinois from their home in Kansas to visit their |
| 8 |
| family; before their return, the family met at the farm home of |
| 9 |
| Lawson Downs Welch for a dinner to bid the visitors farewell |
| 10 |
| and Godspeed on their return trip; during that day it was |
| 11 |
| decided to continue these gatherings; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The Welch-Downs family of McLean County, Illinois |
| 13 |
| has continued to hold an annual family reunion each year since |
| 14 |
| 1882; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Members of this family have contributed to the |
| 16 |
| social fabric of Central Illinois; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Members of this family has been active in their |
| 18 |
| churches; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Members of this family and have worked in numerous |
| 20 |
| jobs, including farming; in fact, many family members have |
|
|

| learned the true meaning of hard work detasseling corn and/or |
| 2 |
| "walking" soybean fields; and
|
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, Members of this family have proudly served in |
| 4 |
| different capacities in the Armed Forces of the United States |
| 5 |
| to defend our freedoms; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, While some family members have moved away from |
| 7 |
| Illinois, many members of the family still reside in Illinois; |
| 8 |
| and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The annual reunion draws family members that have |
| 10 |
| moved away back to Illinois to visit; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Welch Downs family will celebrate its 125th |
| 12 |
| annual reunion during the third weekend of August 2007, |
| 13 |
| culminating with a traditional family picnic to be held at |
| 14 |
| Dooley Park in Downs, Illinois, on August 19, 2007; therefore, |
| 15 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 18 |
| congratulate the Welch-Downs family on the occasion of their |
| 19 |
| 125th annual reunion and their contribution to the social |
| 20 |
| fabric of Illinois, and we extend to them our sincere best |
| 21 |
| wishes for the future; and be it further
