HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Katherine Harris of Chicago on the occasion of her retirement from the Chicago Public Schools after 36 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Harris was born in Goodman, Mississippi; she grew up in Chicago, where she was raised by her parents, Wilbert and Willie Ree Wadlington; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Harris attended Beale Upper Grade Center and Phillips High School; she attended Chicago State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics and master's degrees in Occupational/Vocational Education, Special Education, and Administration and Supervision; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Harris began her teaching career at Barnard School in 1971; during her career she has been a 3rd grade teacher, a high school Home Economics teacher, a Resource Teacher and Coordinator of the Parent/Community Program, a teacher and administrator at the Urban Youth Alternative High School, a coordinator for the Safe and Drug-Free Schools program, a coordinator for various instructional programs, a coordinator for the Retired Teachers Program, an administrator for Region 5, and a Management Support Director for Area 11; she became a CPS administrator in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Harris is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Omega Chapter; she is also a member of the Covenant Faith Church of God; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Harris has been married to William Harris, Sr. for 37 years; she has two children, Karen and William Jr.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Katherine Harris on her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Katherine Harris as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
