| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor Charleston High School |
4 |
| teacher Tina Winings for her many accomplishments and accolades |
5 |
| throughout her career; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings was born on July 1, 1956 in |
7 |
| Indianapolis, Indiana; she married Larry Winings in 1978; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings received her bachelor's degree in |
9 |
| speech communication from Eastern Illinois University in 1978; |
10 |
| she received her master's degree in speech communication from |
11 |
| EIU in 1979 and her master's degree in English from EIU in |
12 |
| 1984; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings has had a long and distinguished |
14 |
| career in education; she has taught English, honors English, |
15 |
| speech, and theatre at Charleston High School since 1980; she |
16 |
| helped to design and implement 6 honors English classes taught |
17 |
| at CHS; she taught beginning literature night courses at |
18 |
| Lakeland College in the fall of 1981; she taught basic English |
19 |
| at EIU during the summer of 1982; and she taught summer speech |
20 |
| oral interpretation workshops from 1994 to 2003; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings has coached and directed many |
|
|

| theatrical performances and training camps, including the EIU |

| Speech Camp, the Charleston High School Speech and Drama Team, |
3 |
| CHS Drama and Group Interpretation events, the Homecoming |
4 |
| Variety Show, the SCOTIE Tourney, the Spring Variety Show, the |
5 |
| Spring Comedy and Drama Revue, the CHS Annual Spring Novice |
6 |
| Tourney, the Illinois High School Theatre Festival, the CHS |
7 |
| Annual Class Talent Competition, and the Charleston Middle |
8 |
| School Speech Program; and she organized and implemented a |
9 |
| National Forensic League Charter at CHS in 2007; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings has served as mentor for student |
11 |
| teachers and practicum students from 1982 to 2006; she |
12 |
| participated in the New Teacher Mentor Workshop in August 2004; |
13 |
| and she organized the New Coaches Mentoring Workshops of 2003, |
14 |
| 2004, and 2006; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings has received many awards and honors |
16 |
| during her career; she was selected as a Charleston Business |
17 |
| and Professional Women's Young Career Woman of the Year in |
18 |
| 1986; she was selected to be on the State Speech Advisory |
19 |
| Committee for Individual Events from 1994 to 1996; she was the |
20 |
| SCOTIE Coach of the Year for 1995; she received the Education |
21 |
| is the Key Award in 2003; she was a member of the IHSA State |
22 |
| Drama and Group Interpretation Committee from 2002 to 2007; and |
23 |
| she received the ISTA Edith Harrod Award in 2006; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Tina Winings has served in various positions with |

| the Charleston United Way, the Special Commission on |
3 |
| Tournaments and Individual Events, the Charleston Education, |
4 |
| the ISTA, the Soaring Schools Initiative, and the Consortium of |
5 |
| Information and Telecommunications Executives; she currently |
6 |
| serves as the Membership/Public Relations Chair for the ISTA; |
7 |
| and she is a member of a creative team selected to design and |
8 |
| implement new teacher induction programs for Charleston |
9 |
| Community Unit School District #1; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, Tina Winings' dedication to her profession
has |
11 |
| truly been a model for the people of the State of Illinois; |
12 |
| therefore, be it
|
13 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
14 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
15 |
| honor Tina Winings for her many accomplishments and accolades |
16 |
| throughout her career and wish her continued success and |
17 |
| happiness in the future; and be it further
|
18 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 |
| presented to Tina Winings as a symbol of our esteem and |
20 |
| respect.
