HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kianca Fincher, a 
4
recent graduate of Hyde Park Academy's International 
5
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, on receiving a scholarship 
6
from the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Kianca Fincher spent part of her high school years 
8
living without a home; through her hard work and dedication to 
9
school, she became known for being very bright, hard-working, 
10
and maintaining a 3.4848 grade point average and being ranked 
11
28th out of her class of 250; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Kianca was a member of the soccer team and the 
13
marching band; as a freshman she participated in retreats and 
14
training programs as part of the freshmen leadership team; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Kianca served as a mentor to freshmen while a 
16
senior through the freshmen adoption program; she worked with 
17
the artist-in-residence to create an elaborate mosaic that will 
18
be installed in the school garden; in addition, she holds 
19
membership in the National Honor Society; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Kianca helped raised money for SMILETRAIN, a 
21
charity providing aid to children in foreign countries that are

born with cleft palates; she served as a recruiter during the 
2
Academy's Eighth Grade Open House; she has helped raise money 
3
for cancer research and enlisted classmates during a "Real Men 
4
Wear Pink" Day to raise cancer awareness in the school; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Outside of school, Kianca has participated in 
6
HIV/AIDS Walkathons, volunteering at the "Bottomless Closet", 
7
where she distributed clothes to the less fortunate, and served 
8
as a tutor to elementary age children in the neighborhood; 
9
therefore, be it

 
10
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate Kianca Fincher for her hard work and willingness 
13
to succeed; and we congratulate her on receiving this important 
14
scholarship to further her education; and be it further

 
15
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16
presented to Kianca Fincher as a symbol of our admiration.
