HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mike Kiefer on his
4 retirement from the United States Department of Agriculture;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mike Kiefer was raised on a farm in Jefferson
7 County, near Mt Vernon; he attended Southern Illinois
8 University from 1964 to 1967, where he received a Bachelor of
9 Science degree with a major in agronomy; he was employed by the
10 USDA, SCS starting July 18, 1967 as an engineering aid until
11 October of 1967 when he was appointed as a Soil Scientist in
12 the Carbondale Area Office; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mike Kiefer was drafted into the United States
14 Army in March, 1968; he married Mary Ann Boscarine on December
15 21, 1968; he was then assigned to the 2nd Engineer Group in
16 Korea as a Soils Analyst and as Senior Construction Surveyor;
17 he also served as chemical-biological-radiological NCO for 2nd
18 Engineer Group; he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant E-5; he
19 received the Army commendation medal for his work with the 2nd,
20 and was discharged in March, 1970; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He returned to the SCS as a soil scientist
22 assigned to the Harrisburg soil survey office until 1983 when

1 he was assigned to the Springfield soil survey office, serving
2 there until accepting a promotion to be the Survey Leader for
3 the Iroquois county Soil Survey; during his assignment in
4 Watseka, he completed his Masters Degree in Public
5 Administration at the University Of Oklahoma through the SCS
6 executive development program; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In 1983, he was assigned to Iroquois county as
8 District Conservationist; while living and working in Iroquois
9 County, he and his wife became the proud parents of two
10 wonderful children, Michele and Christopher; they have one
11 grandchild, Macy Anna; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Upon retirement, Mike Kiefer and his wife have 280
13 acres downstate that they will manage; he will be spending more
14 time on the farm, and would like to do some soils and agronomy
15 consulting; he will be doing more turkey and dear hunting on
16 the farms in southern Illinois; he will also be going to garage
17 sales and auctions; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 congratulate Mike Kiefer on his retirement and wish him
21 continued success in the future; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
