| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon K. Hahs has been installed as President |
| 3 |
| of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago; NEIU is a fully |
| 4 |
| accredited public university serving over 12,000 students from |
| 5 |
| the Chicago metropolitan area with an affordable, high quality |
| 6 |
| academic experience; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to assuming the role of President, Dr. Hahs |
| 8 |
| served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and |
| 9 |
| Director of Special Projects at Southern Illinois University |
| 10 |
| Edwardsville (SIUE); and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hahs has more than 30 years experience in |
| 12 |
| higher education; she served as Dean of the School of |
| 13 |
| Humanities and Sciences at the University of South Carolina at |
| 14 |
| Spartanburg from 1984 to 1994, and as Dean of the newly-formed |
| 15 |
| College of Arts and Sciences at SIUE from 1995 to 2000; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, On July 1, 2000, Dr. Hahs was appointed Provost |
| 17 |
| and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; SIUE has |
| 18 |
| approximately 13,500 students in the College of Arts and |
| 19 |
| Sciences and the Schools of Business, Dental Medicine, |
| 20 |
| Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Pharmacy; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hahs was instrumental in building campus-wide |

| collaborative efforts that resulted in national recognition |
| 2 |
| for the quality of SIUE's academic programs; and
|
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hahs was a member of the chemistry faculty at |
| 4 |
| Metropolitan State College in Denver from 1974 to 1984, where |
| 5 |
| she was promoted to Associate Professor and Professor; and she |
| 6 |
| served as Special Assistant to the Vice President for Academic |
| 7 |
| Affairs for the 1982-1983 academic year; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hahs earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in inorganic |
| 9 |
| chemistry from the University of New Mexico and her B.A. in |
| 10 |
| chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hahs has been married to Billy G. Hash, Jr. |
| 12 |
| for 38 years; they have two daughters, Cara Elouise Hahs, |
| 13 |
| married to Dan Maxfield, and Ona Marie Hahs, married to Daniel |
| 14 |
| Tenny; they have one grandson, Dylan Cole Maxfield; she was |
| 15 |
| born in Washington, Indiana; among her special interests are |
| 16 |
| chasing solar eclipses, international travel, gardening, and |
| 17 |
| music; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 |
| congratulate Dr. Sharon K. Hahs on the occasion of her |
| 21 |
| installation as President of Northeastern Illinois University |
| 22 |
| in Chicago and wish her continued success and happiness in the |
