| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs, |
| 4 |
| Chicago Park District Commissioner, founder and President |
| 5 |
| Emeritus of the DuSable Museum of African-American History in |
| 6 |
| Chicago, on being honored by the Historymaker and Preservation |
| 7 |
| Committee for Celebrating African-American People; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Burroughs was a professor of Humanities at |
| 9 |
| Kennedy-King College from 1968 to 1979; she was an educator in |
| 10 |
| the Chicago Public Schools from 1946 to 1968; and she has been |
| 11 |
| a volunteer teacher at the Joliet and Statesville prisons for |
| 12 |
| the past 12 years; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Burroughs enjoys traveling to other |
| 14 |
| countries, attending education seminars and cultural |
| 15 |
| activities, and assisting other communities in setting up |
| 16 |
| African-American history museums and cultural centers; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Burroughs has Honorary Doctorates from Lewis |
| 18 |
| University, Chicago State University, the Art Institute of |
| 19 |
| Chicago, Columbia College, North Central College, Rhode Island |
| 20 |
| College, DePaul University, and Spelman College; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Burroughs holds a Masters degree in Art |
