| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former |
| 4 |
| State Representative and former director of the Illinois |
| 5 |
| Department of Veterans Affairs James R. "Bud" Washburn of |
| 6 |
| Morris, who passed away on August 8, 2007; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Bud Washburn was born on April 25, 1921 in Morris, |
| 8 |
| the son of Russell V. and Jennie E. Hutchison Washburn; he |
| 9 |
| attended Morris schools, and graduated from Morris High School |
| 10 |
| in 1939; he attended North Central College and the University |
| 11 |
| of Illinois; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Bud Washburn served in the United States Marine |
| 13 |
| Corp during World War II; he attained the rank of Major while |
| 14 |
| serving as a torpedo bomber pilot aboard the Salerno Bay |
| 15 |
| Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific Theater; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, From 1946 to 1950 Bud Washburn served as the |
| 17 |
| Grundy County Treasurer; from 1951 to 1979 he served in |
| 18 |
| Springfield, including five terms as State Representative; he |
| 19 |
| served as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and |
| 20 |
| was elected minority leader during his last term; he also |
| 21 |
| served as Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans |
| 22 |
| Affairs from 1977 to 1979; and
|

| WHEREAS, He was elected the Mayor of Morris and served from |
| 2 |
| 1981 to 1993; he served as the Chairman of the Upper Illinois |
| 3 |
| River Valley Authority from 1990 to 1997; he served as a member |
| 4 |
| of Governor Edgar's Veterans Advisory Board; he served as a |
| 5 |
| member of the Grundy County Republican Central Committee for |
| 6 |
| thirty years, and served ten years as its chairman; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Bud Washburn was a member of Happy Hill Aerie |
| 8 |
| #1024 F.O.E., the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #967, the Morris |
| 9 |
| American Legion Post #294, the Morris AmVets Post #53, the |
| 10 |
| Disabled American Veterans Chapter #86, the John Martin Steele |
| 11 |
| Post #6049 V.F.W., the U.S. Marine Corp Aviation Association, |
| 12 |
| the U.S. Marine Corp League, the Grundy County 40 & 8 Chapter |
| 13 |
| #1195, and the Morris Kiwanis Club; and |
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Bud Washburn was preceded in death by his parents |
| 15 |
| and his sisters, Gladys Davis and Dorothy Hermanson; and |
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of James R. "Bud" Washburn will be |
| 17 |
| deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him, especially his |
| 18 |
| sons, William D. (Laura) Washburn and William R. (Jody) Norman; |
| 19 |
| his daughters, Heather (Jeffrey) Yount and Janice Coop; his |
| 20 |
| twelve grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; and |
| 21 |
| several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 3 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James |
| 4 |
| R. "Bud" Washburn; and be it further
|
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 |
| presented to the family of James R. "Bud" Washburn as a symbol |
| 7 |
| of our sincere sympathy.
