HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cynthia Kleronomos; and

WHEREAS, Cynthia Kleronomos joined the Chicago Zoological Society's Women's Board in May 1999, bringing her tremendous energy and talents to all of her work on behalf of the Chicago Zoological Society's mission of creating conservation leaders; as a member of the Board, she chaired numerous events, introduced many friends and national leaders to the Society's mission, and set ambitious goals and standards for everyone involved; and

WHEREAS, As a chairperson and member of the Chicago Zoological Society's Women's Board's Education and Outreach Committee, Cynthia Kleronomos organized many outreach programs for various groups of underserved children throughout the Chicagoland area and worked closely with other committee members to select the groups, organize the activities, and recruit the needed volunteers; she brought her vision and creative talents to these events, working with her staff to create an incredible experience for the children; and

WHEREAS, Cynthia Kleronomos placed great importance on supporting young students in their conservation careers; she was instrumental in the creation of the Women's Board Scholarship in Environmental Studies in 2002; she was very active in the selection and award process, taking great pleasure in meeting the four annual winners and maintaining contact with them during their scholarship years; and

WHEREAS, Cynthia Kleronomos also shared her great love of nature and the Society's mission with State and national leaders, inviting them to the Brookfield Zoo for special experiences; and

WHEREAS, Cynthia Kleronomos will be remembered for her great commitment to introducing young people to conservation and for her love of the natural world, particularly giraffes and marine animals; her many friendships and conservation legacy lives on through the many scholarship winners, co-workers, and young children whose lives she touched; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family, friends, co-workers, and admirers, the passing of Cynthia Kleronomos; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Cynthia Kleronomos and to a representative of the Chicago Zoological Society as an expression of our sympathy and great respect.
