| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of VFW |
| 4 |
| Rhine Post 2729 on the 75th anniversary of their charter on |
| 5 |
| October 29, 2007; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Rhine Post 2729 was originally organized by a |
| 7 |
| group of 21 veterans from the First World War; the post |
| 8 |
| received its charter on October 29, 1932; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The 21 original members of Rhine Post 2729 |
| 10 |
| struggled to keep the post operating through the years of the |
| 11 |
| Great Depression, distinguishing themselves by their numerous |
| 12 |
| patriotic efforts and public displays in the Chicago area |
| 13 |
| through the Second World War; after the war, with only 16 |
| 14 |
| members remaining, the post decided to concentrate their |
| 15 |
| efforts on increasing membership, adding over 100 members |
| 16 |
| within a few months; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Realizing that the original quarters for the post |
| 18 |
| were too cramped for the swelling membership, the members of |
| 19 |
| Rhine Post 2729 started a building drive, purchasing a new |
| 20 |
| building with a vacant adjacent lot in 1955; the new building |
| 21 |
| attracted more new members and the post continued to grow; and
|

| WHEREAS, Rhine Post 2729 is well known throughout the |
| 2 |
| Chicagoland area for their many community projects, including |
| 3 |
| air shows, visiting veterans in Veterans Affairs hospitals, and |
| 4 |
| essay contests; the post also distributes American flags, |
| 5 |
| safety posters, and Pledge of Allegiance banners on a regular |
| 6 |
| basis; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The pride and joy of the members of Rhine Post |
| 8 |
| 2729 is its senior rifle and drill team, which has earned seven |
| 9 |
| consecutive championships; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The patriotism and dedication to public service |
| 11 |
| exhibited by the members of Rhine Post 2729 serve as an example |
| 12 |
| for the citizens of the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, |
| 13 |
| and the nation; therefore, be it
|
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 |
| congratulate the members of VFW Rhine Post 2729 on the 75th |
| 17 |
| anniversary of their charter, thank them for their public |
| 18 |
| service and numerous sacrifices, and wish them continued |
| 19 |
| success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it |
| 20 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |

| presented to a representative of VFW Rhine Post 2729 as a |
