HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  
3
Representatives are pleased to honor the members of the Chicago 
4
State University Foundation for their contributions in the 
5
field of education; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Chicago State University is one of Illinois' 
7
oldest public universities; it is the number one college in the 
8
Midwest for graduating African-Americans with baccalaureate 
9
degrees; it is the first and only university in Illinois to 
10
have a robotic book retrieval system in its library; it is only 
11
one of two universities in the State to have all of its 
12
programs approved by both the National Council for 
13
Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Illinois State Board 
14
of Education; and the university is the home to the Gwendolyn 
15
Brooks Writers' Conference, the oldest conference for writers 
16
of African descent in the nation; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, The Chicago State University Foundation was 
18
chartered in 1967 and incorporated in 1968 as an independent 
19
charitable organization with the sole purpose of soliciting, 
20
receiving, and administering private gifts to the Chicago State 
21
University; the foundation's mission is to expand and build 
22
upon available resources for
  teaching and service delivery and 
23
further the acquisition and
  delivery of emerging knowledge; and

    WHEREAS, On September 20, 2007, the Chicago State 
2
University Foundation will host the 13th Annual Friends of CSU 
3
Awards Gala; during the ceremony, LaSalle Bank and LaSalle Bank 
4
President and CEO Larry Richman will be presented with the CSU 
5
Foundation's highest honor, the Friends of CSU Award; 
6
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9
honor the members of the Chicago State University Foundation 
10
for their contributions in the field of education and wish the 
11
members continued success in the future; and be it further

 
12
    RESOLVED, That we wish to congratulate LaSalle Bank 
13
President and CEO Larry Richman on his selection as the 2007  
14
recipient of the Friends of CSU Award; and be it further
 
15
    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
  
16
presented to Chicago State University President Elnora D.  
17
Daniel, Friends of CSU Award recipient Larry Richman, and CSU 
18
Foundation Executive Director Marquis Miller as a  symbol of our 
19
esteem and respect.
