HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Nurses (IASN) 
3
was organized in 1958 by a group of school nurses from 
4
throughout the State; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Nurses has more 
6
than 600 members throughout the State; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The mission of the Illinois Association of School 
8
Nurses is to promote comprehensive school health programs, 
9
promote and advance the quality of health education and 
10
services in the school community, improve and maintain 
11
standards of preparation for school nurses, provide 
12
educational programs to advance the specialty of school 
13
nursing, promote and advance the specialty practice of school 
14
nursing through continuing education, encourage membership in 
15
and collaboration with related professional organizations, and 
16
provide a network of support for school nurses; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, In 1982 the Illinois Association of School Nurses 
18
established the Illinois School Nurse of the Year award, 
19
honoring exemplary school nurses from throughout the State; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, The first National School Nurse of the Year (1984) 
21
was from Illinois, with winners from the State in 1992 and

1995; two members have been inducted into the National 
2
Association of School Nurses Academy of Fellows (2002 and 
3
2003); and

 
4
    WHEREAS, 2008 will be the fiftieth anniversary year for the 
5
organization of the Illinois Association of School Nurses; 
6
therefore, be it

 
7
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9
congratulate the Illinois Association of School Nurses on this 
10
special date and wish the members the best as they continue to 
11
provide for school children across the State; and be it further

 
12
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13
presented to the Illinois Association of School Nurses as a 
14
symbol of our respect.
