HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the recent passing of 
4
Gay Lloyd E. Smith; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Gay Lloyd Smith was born on May 13, 1940 in Los 
6
Angeles, California; his parents were Earleen and Gay Lloyd 
7
Smith, Sr.; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Gay Lloyd Smith was a graduate of DuSable High 
9
School in Chicago; he graduated from Roosevelt University with 
10
a Bachelors degree in general studies in 1972 and a Masters in 
11
Public Administration in 1973; he received his Juris Doctorate 
12
from DePaul University in 1977; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Gay Lloyd Smith was admitted to the Bar in 1983 
14
and allowed to practice in the Supreme Court at the State and 
15
federal level; he was licensed as an insurance agent and 
16
accepted to the Million Dollar Roundtable in 1964; he was also 
17
a licensed real estate broker; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Gay Lloyd Smith was active in the community and a 
19
member of the Chicago Church of Christ; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Gay Lloyd Smith is survived by his wife of

seventeen years, Jackie Smith; his children, Lanyaird (Donna) 
2
Smith, and their daughter, Essence Lauren Smith,

and Monica 
3
(Micheal) Houston, and their daughters,  Meagan Houston, Morgan 
4
Houston, Michelle Houston, and Micheala Houston; therefore, be 
5
it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8
mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Gay 
9
Lloyd Smith; and be it further

 
10
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11
presented to the family of Gay Lloyd Smith as a symbol of our 
12
sincere sympathy.
