| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
|

| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army
|

| Private First Class
Jacob Lowell of New Lenox on June 2, 2007 |
| 5 |
| in Afghanistan; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell attended Tyler and Bentley |
| 7 |
| elementary schools and Martino Junior High School; he was a |
| 8 |
| 2003 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School and was an |
| 9 |
| offensive lineman on the school's football team; he was a |
| 10 |
| member of the 1998 national heavyweight championship New Lenox |
| 11 |
| Mustangs team and was named to the 2002 all-conference team; he |
| 12 |
| attended Saint Xavier University for two semesters before |
| 13 |
| joining the Army; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell was a paratrooper with the 173rd |
| 15 |
| Airborne Brigade; he was stationed in Italy until being |
| 16 |
| deployed to Afghanistan in May 2007; during Lowell's first |
| 17 |
| patrol of his first tour in Afghanistan, he was working as a |
| 18 |
| gunner when his Humvee was ambushed; despite being shot in the |
| 19 |
| leg, he continued to fire his weapon and protect the rest of |
| 20 |
| his unit until he was fatally wounded; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell will be remembered by all who |
| 22 |
| knew him as a selfless, patriotic, and upbeat young man who |
