| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Larry Choate on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of his retirement as President of Shawnee | ||||||
| 5 | Community College; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Larry Choate began his career with Shawnee | ||||||
| 7 | Community College in January of 1988, serving as the Vice | ||||||
| 8 | President of Instructional Services; as Vice-President, he was | ||||||
| 9 | responsible for many vital changes, including the | ||||||
| 10 | restructuring of academic programs and administrative | ||||||
| 11 | procedures, the transition from the college's original staff to | ||||||
| 12 | a new generation of faculty, the initiation of the college's | ||||||
| 13 | theater program and youth leadership program, and the expansion | ||||||
| 14 | of the college's facilities; he also represented the college | ||||||
| 15 | through his participation in various State-wide committees, | ||||||
| 16 | such as the Illinois Articulation Initiative; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In January of 2005, Dr. Larry Choate became | ||||||
| 18 | President of Shawnee Community College; as President, he has | ||||||
| 19 | accomplished many important initiatives for the college; | ||||||
| 20 | working with the Shawnee Community College Foundation, he | ||||||
| 21 | initiated a capital campaign which raised much-needed funds for | ||||||
| 22 | the college's scholarship program and for the construction of | ||||||
| 23 | the college's Medical Arts and Sciences Building, Career | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Technology Center, and student housing; he served as the | ||||||
| 2 | co-chair of Southern Illinois University's 20-county Connect | ||||||
| 3 | SI Initiative and as the chair of the Southern 5 Community of | ||||||
| 4 | Interest; he was instrumental in the creation of many | ||||||
| 5 | renovation projects for the college, including a new sewage | ||||||
| 6 | treatment facility and the college's fiber optic network, as | ||||||
| 7 | well as projects involving the relocation and expansion of | ||||||
| 8 | numerous college facilities; he also instituted an | ||||||
| 9 | international student program for the college; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Larry Choate has also contributed to the | ||||||
| 11 | economic development of southern Illinois, having supported | ||||||
| 12 | such projects as the coal gasification initiative in Alexander | ||||||
| 13 | County; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Larry Choate's dedication to his profession | ||||||
| 15 | and willingness to serve his community in meaningful ways makes | ||||||
| 16 | him a model for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, | ||||||
| 17 | be it

| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | congratulate Dr. Larry Choate on the occasion of his retirement | ||||||
| 21 | as President of Shawnee Community College and wish him | ||||||
| 22 | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
| 23 | further
