HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards will be given out 
3
on November 27, 2007 at an awards banquet at the Crowne Plaza 
4
Hotel in Springfield; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, The City of Mascoutah will be receiving the 
6
Governor's Home Town Award for senior citizen involvement in 
7
the restoration of Espenschied Chapel; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Espenschied Chapel was built at the bequest of a 
9
generous local family in 1928; and
 
10
    WHEREAS, Mascoutah Cemetery Chapel, Inc., a not-for-profit 
11
group, was formed by a group of concerned citizens in 1999 to 
12
save the chapel from demolition; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Mascoutah Cemetery Chapel, Inc. raised all the 
14
necessary funds - thanks to the generosity of the community - 
15
to restore the chapel to its original glory; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, After much hard work and enthusiasm, the 
17
volunteers completed the restoration of the chapel; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Since its restoration, Espenschied Chapel has 
19
served as a cultural center in the community, hosting concerts

and events on a regular basis; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
congratulate the City of Mascoutah and Mascoutah Cemetery 
5
Chapel, Inc. on receiving the 2007 Governor's Home Town Award; 
6
and be it further

 
7
    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
8
presented to the City of Mascoutah and Mascoutah Cemetery 
9
Chapel, Inc. as an expression of our esteem.
