| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Donald |
4 |
| "Bud" Herbig of Aurora, who passed away on December 17, 2007; |
5 |
| and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was born on June 13, 1929 in Aurora; |
7 |
| his parents were Helen Browning and Leonard May; he was adopted |
8 |
| by his grandparents, Lois and Emil Herbig, in 1936; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was a lifelong resident of Aurora; |
10 |
| he graduated from East Aurora High School in 1947 and was |
11 |
| inducted into the IHSA Basketball Hall of Fame and the East |
12 |
| Aurora Sports Booster Hall of Fame in honor of his sports |
13 |
| accomplishments; after graduation, he spent many hours of time |
14 |
| working at football games and other sporting events without |
15 |
| compensation; he was also a co-founder of the East Dad's Club, |
16 |
| which evolved into the East Aurora Sports Boosters Club, an |
17 |
| organization that provided much needed funds to East Aurora |
18 |
| High School's sports programs; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was a veteran of the United States |
20 |
| Air Force, where he served for four years during the Korean |
21 |
| War; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was employed as a computer |
2 |
| programmer for the Naperville School District until his |
3 |
| retirement in 1994; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig served on the East Aurora School |
5 |
| Board for 17 years, serving many terms as secretary and |
6 |
| president; as board president, he helped pass a successful |
7 |
| education fund tax hike referendum in 1993 by an incredible |
8 |
| three-vote margin out of 5,000 votes cast; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was active with various community |
10 |
| organizations; he was active with the St. Joseph Parish Holy |
11 |
| Name Society and the East Aurora School Sports Boosters; he |
12 |
| served as a coach for Aurora Little League; he served as an |
13 |
| instructor for the Drum & Bugle Corps; he also served as a |
14 |
| statistician for the Illinois High School Association; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig was preceded in death by his |
16 |
| parents, Helen Browning and Leonard May; his aunts and uncles; |
17 |
| his step-father; and his sister-in-law; and |
18 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Herbig is survived by his wife of 54 years, |
19 |
| Joan; his 8 children, Lois, Joe (Debra), Donna (Javier) |
20 |
| Gonzalez, Debby Sue (Glenn) Campbell, Lori, Joyce Grissom, |
21 |
| Tami, and Barbara; his 15 grandchildren and 15 |
22 |
| great-grandchildren; his sister and brothers-in-law; and his |
|

| many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Godsons; therefore, be it
|
2 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
3 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
4 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Donald |
5 |
| "Bud" Herbig; and be it further
|
6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 |
| presented to the family of Donald "Bud" Herbig as an expression |
8 |
| of our sympathy.
