HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Matteson 
4
Elementary School District 162 Superintendent Blondean Davis 
5
on the occasion of being named the 2008 Illinois Superintendent 
6
of the Year by the Illinois Association of School 
7
Administrators; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Blondean Davis was appointed as Superintendent of 
9
Matteson Elementary School District 162 in 2002; during her 
10
tenure as superintendent, the district has increased its 
11
Illinois Standards Achievement Test scores 45 percent since 
12
2001 and increased the district's 2007 composite ISAT score to 
13
80 percent; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis served as 
15
day-to-day manager in the Chicago Public Schools from 1995 to 
16
2001 before serving in her current position in Matteson 
17
Elementary School District 162, a position that greatly aided 
18
her ability to lead the district to new heights of greatness; 
19
and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Blondean Davis's great vision as superintendent 
21
and her designation as Superintendent of the Year helps to 
22
disprove the unfair expectation that children of color in

communities of poverty are unable to meet or exceed learning 
2
standards within this State and across the nation and has 
3
proven that all children are able to learn in school as long as 
4
everyone involved believe in the children and do what is 
5
necessary to teach them what they need to know to achieve 
6
excellence; and

    WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis is slated to give a 
8
presentation at the Illinois Association of School 
9
Administrators state conference in April of 2008, where she 
10
will hopefully impart some of her great wisdom to the other 
11
school administrators in attendance; she is also entered into 
12
the National Superintendent of the Year competition in December 
13
of 2007, where she will serve as a representative of this great 
14
State as one of its finest educators; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis and her methods of 
16
leadership serve as examples of what all schools should aspire 
17
to, a gold standard of quality education in the State of 
18
Illinois and the nation at large; therefore, be it

 
19
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
21
congratulate Superintendent Blondean Davis on the occasion of 
22
being named the 2008 Illinois Superintendent of the Year and 
23
wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be
