| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Louise |
| 4 |
| Copeland Tankson, who passed away on January 16, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson was born on December 5, |
| 6 |
| 1929 in Baldwyn, Mississippi; her parents were Nathan and |
| 7 |
| Canaro Copeland; she married Edward Tankson on May 10, 1948; |
| 8 |
| and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson accepted Christ as her |
| 10 |
| Savior at age 13; she was baptized and became a member of |
| 11 |
| Pleasant Ridge Church; in the 1960s, after an invitation from |
| 12 |
| her friend and neighbor, Marion Blackmon, she became a lifelong |
| 13 |
| member of Keystone Baptist Church, where she devoted herself to |
| 14 |
| bringing family and friends to the Lord; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson attended Smyth Elementary |
| 16 |
| and Medill High School, where she met her future husband, |
| 17 |
| Edward; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson worked in various fields |
| 19 |
| throughout her life; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson was preceded in death by |
|
|

| her husband and her three siblings; and |
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson is survived by her |
| 3 |
| daughters, Brenda Elmore (William), Dena Jenks (David), and |
| 4 |
| Vanessa Beene; her sisters, Ruth Harris, Anna Savage, Lounell |
| 5 |
| Cummings, and Elizabeth Moore (Walter); her brothers, Richard |
| 6 |
| Copeland (Shirley) and David Copeland (Cecilia); her |
| 7 |
| grandchildren, Jenna, Justin, Kendra, William, and Joi; her |
| 8 |
| great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Tiara, Jaden, and Maya Louise; |
| 9 |
| and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson will be remembered by all |
| 11 |
| who knew and loved her as a kind, compassionate, and wise |
| 12 |
| person that drew others to her and whose home was a welcoming |
| 13 |
| haven to all who sought comfort; therefore, be it
|
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 |
| mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Louise |
| 17 |
| Copeland Tankson; and be it further
|
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 |
| presented to the family of Louise Copeland Tankson as an |
| 20 |
| expression of our sympathy.
