| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Annie | ||||||
| 4 | Laura Spencer Lott of Chicago, who passed away on January 15, | ||||||
| 5 | 2008; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, On September 1, 1910, Annie Laura Spencer was the | ||||||
| 7 | second of seven children born to Frank and Annie Spencer in | ||||||
| 8 | Black Hawk, Mississippi;
Annie's educational venture began in | ||||||
| 9 | Mississippi, leading her to Mississippi Industrial College, a | ||||||
| 10 | historical African Methodist college where her grandfather, | ||||||
| 11 | John St. Clair, was one of the college's founders; she became a | ||||||
| 12 | fully credentialed teacher and developed a close and lasting | ||||||
| 13 | rapport with many of her students, with one of her students | ||||||
| 14 | attending her 96th birthday celebration; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, In 1947, in Chicago she married Stannie Lott;
| ||||||
| 16 | Approximately sixty years ago Annie became a member of Carey | ||||||
| 17 | Tercentenary A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Pastor S.A. | ||||||
| 18 | Amos; Annie loved her church and remained a faithful servant | ||||||
| 19 | actively participating in the roles of stewardess, missionary, | ||||||
| 20 | deaconess, former President of the Flower Club, former Class | ||||||
| 21 | Leader, and member of the 120 Club Radio Broadcast Ministry; | ||||||
| 22 | and

| 1 | WHEREAS,
Annie was active in the community and held | ||||||
| 2 | memberships in many community and social organizations such as: | ||||||
| 3 | Block Club President and secretary; Women for Social Change | ||||||
| 4 | Scholarship Organization; Summer Youth Employment Program | ||||||
| 5 | Coordinator and Former Treasurer of Lawndale Golden Age Club of | ||||||
| 6 | Franklin Park, and the American Legion Auxiliary; and she was | ||||||
| 7 | the recipient of numerous awards and certificates; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the | ||||||
| 9 | North Lawndale Greening Committee and Steans Family | ||||||
| 10 | Foundation; she was the recipient of numerous gardening awards | ||||||
| 11 | and was featured in an article on the North Lawndale African | ||||||
| 12 | Garden, which was published in the Chicago Sun-Times; the | ||||||
| 13 | Chicago Tribune and the North Lawndale News also printed | ||||||
| 14 | articles featuring her gardening experiences; she was | ||||||
| 15 | extremely passionate about health, education, gardening and | ||||||
| 16 | beautification; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Annie Laura Spencer Lott was preceded in death by | ||||||
| 18 | her parents, five of her siblings, and her son, Stannie Jr.; | ||||||
| 19 | and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The passing of Annie Laura Spencer Lott will be | ||||||
| 21 | deeply felt by her loving and devoted daughter, Alta Lott- | ||||||
| 22 | Flowers and loyal son-in-law Shelton; her brother, Holsey | ||||||
| 23 | Spencer (Bertha); her grandchildren, Lanneus Lott, Chevelle | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Lott, and Stania Flowers; her great-grandson, Keante Hopkins; | ||||||
| 2 | her sister, Roberta Rosenthall; her special son, James Lott | ||||||
| 3 | (Alice); her brother-in-law, Jimmie Lott; her sisters-in-law, | ||||||
| 4 | Sadie Alexander and Martha McBride; her seven special | ||||||
| 5 | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her longtime dear | ||||||
| 6 | friend, Mrs. Safronia Thomas; and her numerous nieces, nephews, | ||||||
| 7 | cousins, and special friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Annie | ||||||
| 11 | Laura Spencer Lott; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to the family of Annie Laura Spencer Lott as a symbol | ||||||
| 14 | of our sympathy.
