HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners and 
4
employees of Midwest Generation on the occasion of receiving 
5
the 2008 Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce "Salute to Industry" 
6
Award; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Midwest Generation is part of the Edison Mission 
8
Group, which owns and operates 40 power generation facilities 
9
in 13 states; the company owns 6 electric power stations in 
10
Illinois, with 2 stations in Will County, the Joliet Station 
11
and the Will County Station in Romeoville; the company employs 
12
430 men and women in Will County; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Midwest Generation is a major contributor to the 
14
economy of Will County, providing more than $90 million in 
15
property taxes, payroll, employee benefits, area vendor 
16
purchases, and various projects in the communities it serves; 
17
the company and its employees also contribute greatly to many 
18
local organizations, including the United Way of Will County, 
19
Joliet Junior College, the Joliet YMCA, the Joliet Housing 
20
Authority, the Joliet Park Foundation, Joliet Township High 
21
School, the Joliet Township Fair, the Heartland Blood Center, 
22
The Spanish Center, Hill Memorial, and Cornerstone Services;

and

    WHEREAS, Since acquiring its Illinois facilities in 1999, 
2
Midwest Generation has maintained its status as a leader in 
3
environmental responsibility in power generation; the company 
4
spent nearly $50 million on new pollution controls shortly 
5
after its arrival in the State; in December of 2006, the 
6
company reached an agreement with the State of Illinois to 
7
spend an estimated $3.5 billion on additional pollution 
8
controls over a 10 year period, including one of the first 
9
mercury emission control programs in the United States; the 
10
company, along with their parent company EMG, also plans to 
11
build a large wind energy in LaSalle as an integral part of 
12
their wind energy initiative; and


 
13
    WHEREAS, Midwest Generation will receive the "Salute to 
14
Industry" Award during a celebration dinner on February 11, 
15
2008 at the Holiday Inn Joliet Hotel and Conference Center; 
16
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
19
congratulate the owners and employees of Midwest Generation on 
20
the occasion of receiving the 2008 Joliet Region Chamber of 
21
Commerce "Salute to Industry" Award and wish them continued 
22
success and happiness in the future; and be it further

presented to a representative of Midwest Generation  as a symbol

of our esteem and respect.
