| WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is the oldest continuous |

| business in Bond County; and
|

| WHEREAS, The first issue of the Greenville Advocate was |

| published by Jediah F. Alexander on February 11, 1858; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The newspaper was founded to take a stand for the |
| 7 |
| preservation of the Union and in support of the candidacy of |
| 8 |
| Abraham Lincoln for the United States Senate; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Jediah F. Alexander was a personal friend of |
| 10 |
| Abraham Lincoln and was the first of ten editors the newspaper |
| 11 |
| has had in its 150 years; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is one of the oldest |
| 13 |
| newspapers in Illinois publishing under its original name; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The late Duane Reeves, a former editor, was a |
| 15 |
| second generation publisher of the newspaper; and |
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The newspaper is owned by Duane's son, Richard, |
| 17 |
| and Ronda Reeves, with Richard being The Greenville Advocate's |
| 18 |
| only third-generation publisher; and
