HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to acknowledge sports programs in 
4
the State of Illinois that help our young people learn 
5
important skills and values that they can use throughout their 
6
lives; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Hoffman Estates Park District  and the Hoffman 
8
Estates Ice Program have been providing ice skating and ice 
9
hockey programs, lessons, and leagues since the building of the 
10
twin ice facility in 2004; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Hockey has been found to offer excellent fitness 
12
and cross-training opportunities for young athletes; it is a 
13
sport that also allows young women to excel both as individuals 
14
and as a part of a team; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Girls' hockey is one of the fastest growing team 
16
sports in North America, with more than 60,000 girls playing 
17
across the nation; and

    WHEREAS, The Hoffman Estates Park District will host the 
19
Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois 2008 Girls' Blackhawk 
20
Cup during the week of February 18-24, 2008; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
declare the week of February 18-24, 2008 as Girls' Hockey Week 
4
in the State of Illinois and urge the citizens of the State to 
5
show their support for girls' hockey during that week and 
6
throughout the year; and be it further

 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to Dean R. Bostrom, Executive Director of the Hoffman 
9
Estates Park District, as  a symbol of our respect.
