HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the organizers and 
4
participants of the Illinois Mennonite Relief Sale on the 
5
occasion of the event's 50th anniversary; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Illinois Mennonite Relief Sale began in a sale 
7
barn in Congerville in 1958; the event soon moved to the 
8
Exposition Gardens in Peoria; after a move to the Peoria 
9
Convention Center, the event moved a final time to the 
10
Interstate Center in Bloomington, where it has remained the 
11
last several years; the organization utilizes the help of over 
12
1,500 volunteers and has raised over 6 million dollars for 
13
worthy causes; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, The Mennonite Central Committee is a world-wide 
15
organization that provides "relief work", consisting of 
16
medical, food, clothing, housing, and educational services, in 
17
53 needy countries worldwide; the organization began in 1920 to 
18
assist refugees in foreign countries; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, The 50th Illinois Mennonite Relief Sale will be 
20
held on March 14 and 15, 2008 at the Bloomington Interstate 
21
Center, where thousands of items will be sold to further their 
22
cause of helping the needy; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
congratulate the organizers and participants of the Illinois 
4
Mennonite Relief Sale on the occasion of the event's 50th 
5
anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and 
6
be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to a representative of the  Illinois Mennonite Relief 
9
Sale as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
