| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the |
| 4 |
| Vernon Hills Lions Club on the occasion of the club's 25th |
| 5 |
| anniversary on March 14, 2008; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The Lions Club is the world's largest and oldest |
| 7 |
| service organization; the club was established by a Chicago |
| 8 |
| businessman and has provided services to the sight and hearing |
| 9 |
| impaired since 1917; the members have since developed a |
| 10 |
| sterling reputation as "knights of the blind"; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club was chartered on March |
| 12 |
| 14, 1983; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club has devoted its 25 |
| 14 |
| years of existence to various programs to help the hearing |
| 15 |
| impaired and those with diabetes; the club has given hearing |
| 16 |
| aids to needy families, especially children; the club has |
| 17 |
| sponsored and directed a weekend camping experience for |
| 18 |
| visually and hearing impaired children; the club has helped to |
| 19 |
| obtain eye surgery for needy residents to help restore sight |
| 20 |
| and prevent blindness; the club has given many scholarships |
| 21 |
| named in the memory of David Nicollazi, a past president of the |
| 22 |
| club, to deserving students in recognition of their community |

| service; the club has hosted the annual SEDOL Special Olympics |
| 2 |
| Awards Dinner; the club has also sponsored vision testing for |
| 3 |
| children beginning school and for community residents in need, |
| 4 |
| purchasing corrective eye wear for them if needed; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club is actively involved |
| 6 |
| in its community; the club has hosted the Vernon Hills Blood |
| 7 |
| Drive for the Village of Vernon Hills for several years; the |
| 8 |
| club has developed good relations with the Park District, |
| 9 |
| donating Braille signs for the park district offices during |
| 10 |
| their construction; the members also participate in the Village |
| 11 |
| of Vernon Hills July 4th parade, the Village Summer |
| 12 |
| Celebration, and Oktoberfest; during the holiday season, the |
| 13 |
| club donates gifts to the Lake County Abused Women Shelter; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Vernon Hills Lions Club are |
| 15 |
| models of generosity and kindness for the people of the State |
| 16 |
| of Illinois; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 |
| congratulate the members of the Vernon Hills Lions Club on the |
| 20 |
| occasion of the club's 25th anniversary and wish them continued |
| 21 |
| success and happiness in the future; and be it further
