HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller of Wheaton, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan on January 25, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Robert Miller was a 2002 graduate of Wheaton North High School, where he was a member of the gymnastics team; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Robert Miller worked in special forces as a weapons sergeant; he was assigned to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group Airborne, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Robert Miller attended the University of Iowa after his high school graduation; in August of 2003, he enlisted in the United States Army as a special forces candidate and became a Green Beret in 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant; he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for courage in the face of the enemy; he also received eight other medals, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development ribbons, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Miller will be deeply felt by his parents, Philip and Maureen Miller; his brothers, Thomas, Martin, and Edward; and his sisters, Joanna, Mary, Therese, and Patricia; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Robert Miller and his willingness to serve our country which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
