HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, Illinois State Representative Elizabeth Hernandez 
3
and the Illinois House of Representatives are deeply saddened 
4
to learn of the tragic death of Catalina Garcia of Cicero, who 
5
passed away on February 14, 2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Catalina Garcia grew up in Cicero; she graduated 
7
from Morton East High School in June of 2006; she took summer 
8
classes at Morton College before enrolling at Northern Illinois 
9
University in the fall of 2006 in order to become a teacher; 
10
she was employed at the campus' Latino Resource Center, where 
11
she looked forward to mentoring new students; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Catalina Garcia loved to dance, listen to music, 
13
and enjoy life to the fullest; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Catalina Garcia's life was cut tragically short in 
15
the events of February 14, 2008 at Northern Illinois 
16
University; therefore, be it

 
17
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
19
mourn, along with her family and friends, the loss of Catalina 
20
Garcia; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That we extend our deepest sympathies to the 
2
families of those affected by the tragic events at Northern 
3
Illinois University and express our sadness over the loss of 
4
precious lives; and be it further
 
5
    RESOLVED, That we encourage the residents of this State to 
6
keep all those affected by these tragic events in their 
7
prayers; and be it further
 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to the family of Catalina Garcia as an expression of 
10
our deepest sympathy and respect.
