|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jim Tikalsky on the |
| 4 |
| occasion of being named Darien's Citizen of the Year for 2008; |
| 5 |
| and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Jim Tikalsky has been an involved resident in the |
| 7 |
| City of Darien since he was a small boy; in 1974, he helped |
| 8 |
| raise funds for Old Lace School by selling old desks stored in |
| 9 |
| the school's basement; in 1975, he helped raise money for the |
| 10 |
| Darien bicentennial committee by selling bicycle stickers; he |
| 11 |
| was appointed vice-president of Kiwanis South high School's |
| 12 |
| Kiwanis-sponsored Key Club, becoming the club's President in |
| 13 |
| 1981; he has served as a life member and member of the Board of |
| 14 |
| Directors of the Darien Historical Society since 1993 and |
| 15 |
| currently serves as the society's president; he served on |
| 16 |
| Darien's 25th Anniversary Committee in 1994; in 1995, he joined |
| 17 |
| the Lions Club and served as Chairman of Tag Day for the Darien |
| 18 |
| Historical Society; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Jim Tikalsky served as the City of Darien's Ward 4 |
| 20 |
| alderman from 2002 until 2005; in April of 2007, he ran for and |
| 21 |
| was elected to the Darien Park District Board as a |
| 22 |
| Commissioner; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Jim Tikalsky also serves as a DJ for many Darien |
| 2 |
| activities, such as the Historical Society Christmas Tree |
| 3 |
| Lighting, Sunday Dinner, Ice Cream social, Darien Lions Club |
| 4 |
| District Convention, Darien's 4th of July parade and picnic, |
| 5 |
| the Darien Police Department's D.A.R.E. event, and the Darien |
| 6 |
| Lions Club Halloween Party, awards dinner, and Christmas |
| 7 |
| dinner; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Jim Tikalsky was the recipient of the Ace Hardware |
| 9 |
| "Moment of Truth" Award in 1990 in recognition of his community |
| 10 |
| service; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, A dinner-dance will be held in honor of Jim |
| 12 |
| Tikalsky's accomplishments on March 8, 2008 at Alpine Banquets |
| 13 |
| in Darien; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Jim Tikalsky's lifetime of dedication and service |
| 15 |
| to the citizens of the City of Darien makes him a model of |
| 16 |
| civic involvement for the people of the State of Illinois; |
| 17 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 |
| congratulate Jim Tikalsky on the occasion of being named |
| 21 |
| Darien's Citizen of the Year for 2008 and wish him continued |
| 22 |
| success and happiness in the future; and be it further
