| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff of |
| 4 |
| DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOWY on the occasion of the newspaper's 100th |
| 5 |
| anniversary; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The history of DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOWY began in 1907 |
| 7 |
| when the Polish National Alliance decided to create a newspaper |
| 8 |
| to serve the entire Polish-American community during their 1907 |
| 9 |
| National Convention; the first edition of DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOWY, |
| 10 |
| literally translated to "The Alliance Daily", was printed on |
| 11 |
| January 15, 1908; the newspaper's first editor was Frank |
| 12 |
| Jablonski, a dedicated journalist and Polish-American activist |
| 13 |
| and former PNA President and ZGODA editor; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, In the coming decades after the inception of |
| 15 |
| DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOWY, the newspaper grew to become the most |
| 16 |
| widely read Polish newspaper in the City of Chicago, no small |
| 17 |
| task in such a hotly contested city; by 1923, after taking over |
| 18 |
| rival newspaper National Daily, the circulation surpassed |
| 19 |
| 54,000; under Karol Piatkiewicz, the newspaper's editor from |
| 20 |
| 1931 until 1967, DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOWY became the authoritative |
| 21 |
| source of news regarding "all things Polish", and made a |
| 22 |
| particularly memorable contribution during World War II and the |
| 23 |
| Cold War years; and
