HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the men and women 
4
who represent Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, 
5
on the occasion of the organization's 90th anniversary; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago 
7
began in 1917 when a group of Chicago business and civic 
8
leaders approached Cardinal Mundelein, asking for the 
9
establishment of an agency to serve the poor; since its 
10
origins, Catholic Charities of Chicago has grown to become the 
11
largest private social service agency in the Midwest, and the 
12
largest Catholic Charities organization in the United States; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Catholic Charities has adapted to meet the 
15
changing needs of Chicago, becoming pioneers in several areas; 
16
the organization helps abandoned children, the aged and 
17
infirmed, and families in trouble, and worked in these areas 
18
before many current social service agencies began serving these 
19
particular needs; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, More than 1.1 million men, women, and children are 
21
served each year through Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese 
22
of Chicago; and

    WHEREAS, Catholic Charities opened the St.Leo Campus for 
2
Veterans in 2007; the Campus is the first of its kind in the 
3
United States, assisting homeless veterans with housing, 
4
medical assistance, and job training; and
 
5
    WHEREAS, Catholic Charities fulfills the role of the 
6
Catholic Church in the mission of charity to anyone in need; 
7
Catholic Charities provides compassion, professional services 
8
that strengthen and support individuals and families, and 
9
fulfills needs across communities; therefore, be it

 
10
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate the men and women who work everyday to make 
13
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago an agency 
14
dedicated to helping others; and be it further

 
15
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16
presented to a representative of Catholic Charities of the 
17
Archdiocese of Chicago as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
