HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edwin L. Kay of Chicago, who passed away on February 23, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Edwin Kay was born on November 30, 1926 in Chicago; he was the eighth of twelve children born to Marion and Hattie Kay; he grew up in Hyde Park and attended Kenwood Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in World War II; he worked as a contractor, then with the Teletype Corporation, followed by employment with the City of Chicago as a civil servant driving trucks; he then started his own maintenance company called Kay's Home Maintenance; in addition to managing his own business, he also worked as a consultant at the University of Chicago's Smart Art Gallery; and

WHEREAS, Edwin L. Kay is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Kay; his children, Lawrence, Patricia E., Ramona A., and Mark A.; his brother, Richard Kay; his sister, Julia Ann Kay-Liddell; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his nieces and nephews; and a host of loving relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, Edwin Kay took pride in his children and grandchildren and encouraged them to do their best at all times; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edwin L. Kay; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edwin L. Kay as a symbol of our sympathy.
