HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels was created 43 years ago under the federal Older Americans Act, signed into law on July 14, 1965, by President Lyndon B. Johnson; and

WHEREAS, To mark the 43rd anniversary of Meals on Wheels, the Senior Advisory Council and Community Nutrition Network, Inc., of Schaumburg is participating in March for Meals, a national campaign aimed at bringing awareness to the plight of senior citizens who go hungry; and

WHEREAS, March for Meals is sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America; and

WHEREAS, Despite the success of the Meals on Wheels program, literally hundreds of thousands of senior citizens still go without food and four out of ten Meals on Wheels programs have waiting lists; and

WHEREAS, During the month of March, people all over the country are encouraged to participate in the Meals on Wheels program by volunteering or contributing financially to this worthy program that brings food and hope to senior citizens across the country; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 43rd anniversary of the creation of Meals on Wheels, and we encourage the citizens of Illinois to support this worthy program either financially or by volunteering to take meals to senior citizens in their communities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Senior Advisory Council and Community Nutrition Network, Inc., of Schaumburg as an expression of our gratitude for the important service they provide to our senior citizens.
