| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Shirley L. Myers on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of being the recipient of the Elmhurst Jaycees | ||||||
| 5 | Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her 35 years of | ||||||
| 6 | dedicated service to the people of Elmhurst; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers was born on July 13, 1942 in | ||||||
| 8 | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; she married Thomas O. Myers Jr. on | ||||||
| 9 | May 9, 1970; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers earned her bachelor's degree in | ||||||
| 11 | group work from George Williams College in June of 1966 and her | ||||||
| 12 | master's degree in gerontology administration from Louis | ||||||
| 13 | University in June of 1992; in pursuit of further knowledge, | ||||||
| 14 | she attends seminars given by the U.S. Department of Aging, the | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois Area Agency on Aging, and the Aging Resources and | ||||||
| 16 | Services Training Series done by Midwestern University; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers has served as president or | ||||||
| 18 | chairperson of the Elmhurst American Legion Auxiliary, the | ||||||
| 19 | Elmhurst Symphony Auxiliary, First Congregational Church of | ||||||
| 20 | Christ Deaconate Board, Children's Home and Aid Society of | ||||||
| 21 | Illinois: Elmhurst Auxiliary, Elmhurst Afternoon Women's Club, | ||||||
| 22 | and as a long-standing chairperson of the Elmhurst Senior | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Citizens Commission; expanding her borders, she has also served | ||||||
| 2 | for five years on the board of directors with Healthy DuPage; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers' professional career has spanned | ||||||
| 5 | many civic organizations, including the Salvation Army | ||||||
| 6 | Settlement House, Christopher Settlement House, South Shore | ||||||
| 7 | YMCA, Krannert Family YMCA (Indianapolis, Indiana), and the | ||||||
| 8 | Elmhurst Family YMCA; she also works in the family business, | ||||||
| 9 | the Thomas O. Myers Real Estate Organization, along with | ||||||
| 10 | raising her two sons, Paul and David; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers has devoted much of her time and | ||||||
| 12 | energy advocating for the needs of Elmhurst's senior citizens; | ||||||
| 13 | her work with organizations such as Seniors and Lawmakers | ||||||
| 14 | Together (SALT) and her service on the board of Elmhurst | ||||||
| 15 | Memorial Hospital's Home Health Care and Hospice Board has | ||||||
| 16 | proven invaluable towards this cause; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers has been awarded both the Elmhurst | ||||||
| 18 | College Founders Medal and the City of Elmhurst Character | ||||||
| 19 | Counts Service Award in recognition of her civic pride, | ||||||
| 20 | philanthropy, and support of Elmhurst; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Shirley Myers' dedication to the people of | ||||||
| 22 | Elmhurst and her willingness to help those in need serves as a | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of | ||||||
| 2 | the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 4 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 5 | congratulate Shirley L. Myers on the occasion of being the | ||||||
| 6 | recipient of the Elmhurst Jaycees Distinguished Service Award | ||||||
| 7 | and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and | ||||||
| 8 | be it further

| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Shirley L. Myers as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 11 | respect.
