HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  
3
Representatives are pleased to honor the organizers and 
4
participants of the Gathering of Elizabeths for recognizing the 
5
importance of the many people named Elizabeth throughout the 
6
State, the nation, and the world; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Village of Elizabeth was named after three 
8
women, each named Elizabeth, who helped defend the Apple River 
9
Fort from a raid by the legendary warrior Black Hawk and 200 of 
10
his best warriors; the Village of Elizabeth now occupies the 
11
land on which the fort was built; the Apple River Fort is now 
12
an Illinois State Historic Site; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, On June 28, 2008 in Elizabeth, Illinois, the 
14
organizers of the Gathering of Elizabeths will bring together 
15
the most women and girls with the first or middle name of 
16
Elizabeth in one location at one time in world history; the 
17
event was put together in order to celebrate the community's 
18
heritage of brave and courageous women with the name of 
19
Elizabeth; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, This body wishes to express its implicit support 
21
for this grand showing of solidarity and support for the great 
22
women named Elizabeth and the great things that they have done

for mankind; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
honor the organizers and participants of the Gathering of 
5
Elizabeths for recognizing the importance of the many people 
6
named Elizabeth and wish them great success during their event; 
7
and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to the organizers of the Gathering of Elizabeths as a 
10
symbol of our esteem and respect.
