1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of

3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Penny Holycross of

4 Westville on receiving the Women of Distinction award from the

5 Champaign Regional Service Center of the Girl Scouts of Central

6 Illinois; and

7 WHEREAS, Penny Holycross is a Westville resident and

8 Georgetown Township supervisor; she was among six chosen as

9 Women of Distinction by the Champaign Regional Service Center

10 of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois; more than 85

11 outstanding women from six counties in east central Illinois

12 have been chosen for the award, which is in its 17th year; and

13 WHEREAS, Community members nominate women who have made a

14 difference in their careers and communities, while serving as

15 examples of the Girl Scout law; a task force makes the final

16 selections; recipients do not need to be affiliated with Girl

17 Scouts; and

18 WHEREAS, Penny Holycross was nominated by her

19 mother-in-law, Clovia Holycross; the nomination noted that

20 Holycross' job often spills over to weekends and holidays; and

21 WHEREAS, She also established a food pantry and community

1 garden and drives to Bloomington to obtain food; she has been a

2 volunteer with Santas Anonymous for more than 20 years, is a

3 board member for Faith in Action, serves on the Keep Vermilion

4 County Beautiful board, and is organizing a South Vermilion

5 County Cleanup Day; and

6 WHEREAS, She has proven that she is a hard worker,

7 dedicated to her community and the people around her;

8 therefore, be it

9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

10 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

11 congratulate Penny Holycross and wish her the best in her

12 future endeavors; and be it further

13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

14 presented to Penny Holycross as a symbol of our respect.
