HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the trustees and 
4
employees of the Galena Public Library on the occasion of its 
5
100th anniversary on July 4, 2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Galena's library was originally located on the 
7
second floor of the Galena Post Office building on Commerce 
8
Street in Galena; after determining that the library required 
9
more space, the library Board of Directors began the search for 
10
a new library in 1906; after an exhaustive search for a new 
11
location, the Board of Directors narrowed the choice to three 
12
locations; the board decided on its current location on Bench 
13
Street in Galena; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, With a new location determined, the cornerstone of 
15
the Galena Public Library was put in place on April 27, 1907; 
16
after construction was completed, the library was formally 
17
dedicated on July 4, 1908; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, The Galena Public Library has been a cornerstone 
19
of the rich history of the City of Galena and the State of 
20
Illinois; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2
congratulate the trustees and employees of the Galena Public 
3
Library on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and wish 
4
continued success for the library in the future; and be it 
5
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to a representative of the  Galena Public Library as a 
8
symbol of our esteem and respect.
