HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jacob Lane on the 
4
occasion of being inducted into the All-USA Community College 
5
Academic First Team by USA Today; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane was selected by USA Today as one of 20 
7
members of the All-USA Community College Academic First Team; 
8
students named to the First Team have not only excelled in 
9
academics but have also used their abilities to improve their 
10
campus and/or community; in addition, the students must write 
11
an essay describing an endeavor that they have undertake for 
12
the improvement of their surroundings; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane is currently a political science and 
14
law student at Danville Area Community College, where he is a 
15
Presidential Scholar and maintains a 4.0 GPA; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane is the first Danville Area Community 
17
College student to make the team; for winning this prestigious 
18
designation, he received a trophy and a $2,500 scholarship at 
19
the President's Breakfast during the American Association of 
20
Community Colleges convention in Philadelphia; in addition, he 
21
was named a New Century Scholar for having received the most 
22
points out of all Illinois applicants, for which he was given

another $2,000 scholarship; and

 
2
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane was honored for co-founding the College 
3
Republicans on his campus in 2007 as a way to stimulate 
4
political participation; he also helped revive his school's 
5
student government association; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane is a member of the percussion section 
7
of the Danville Municipal Band and is an Eagle Scout, the Boy 
8
Scouts of America's highest honor; he hopes to become a lawyer 
9
and run for Congress in the future; and
 
10
    WHEREAS, Jacob Lane serves as a model of hard work, 
11
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
12
Illinois; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
15
congratulate Jacob Lane on the occasion of being inducted into 
16
the All-USA Community College Academic First Team and wish him 
17
continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
18
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20
presented to Jacob Lane as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
